Despite Sam's refusal to sleep at all on this holiday (was it the excitement? the egg hunt? too many marshmallow peeps?), we had a fantastic Easter. We took the kids to meet the Easter bunny last weekend. Carly wanted to know if it was the real Easter bunny or another one. (This is the kid who thinks the Santa we go to see is the real Santa and any others are just his helpers.) Hmm, I don't know - I'm not even sure if the "easter bunny" supposed to look like a guy in a rabbit costume or a real live bunny, but maybe bigger? I left it up to her to decide.
Leo was freaked out by the bunny suit and was a bit hesitant to come down the stairs Sunday morning after Carly had announced the Easter bunny had been there. I'm sure Leo was picturing the guy in the bunny suit sitting in our living room. He looked relieved to see it was just us. Carly had been up early and had already found everyone's baskets, which came in handy because when it comes to looking for things, Leo is the WORST. I think he didn't quite understand that he was supposed to be looking for his Easter basket or even what his basked looked like. All he knew was that Carly had one and he didn't. His was hidden in a big basket where we keep all Sam's supplies, covered by a blanket. Pat sent Leo to get a burp rag for Sam, which Leo did at top speed, not even noticing his basket. Pat sent him back for a bib, and he finally noticed it. All he cared about was the chocolate bunny. My kids think chocolate bunnies are the most intriguing thing ever. The egg hunt took forever because Leo would stand in the middle of the room saying "Huh? Wah? " every time we tried to give him a clue. Thankfully Carly is a good sharer and gave him some of her eggs.
We spent the day at my parents. The kids played with their cousins and were exhausted by the days end. I sent them downstairs to put some toys away and Leo came up and asked "hey - where did all the people go?" When we left he cried because he thought for some reason my cousin Jess was coming home with us. She is 22 and tops his list of favorite babysitters. All 3 kids were sleeping within a minute of us pulling out of the driveway. Ah, a quiet ride home was the best way to end a busy holiday.
